Occasion : Valentine's Day
Status : Married
Hhmm... I wonder how if celebrating Valentine's is any different after we are married. After all, she never wanted me to waste money on pricey flowers. Didn't know what to get her so I set out to surprise Vans, again.
I've been watching a lot of culinary/cooking shows lately, just love those on BBC Entertainment. They make it look so easy, and tasty. Well, I have to try, whether it turns out good or bad, that is a worry for another day.
I took some time off on Valentine's day to buy some ingredients in Tesco and rush home around 4:30 to prepare the surprise dinner. When I reached home, it was already 4:45pm, so I had exactly 1 hour 15 minutes to prepare a soup, salad, and main course.
I laid out all the ingredients before me, and set out to prepare a mushroom soup, fruit salad with potato & prawns and chicken baked with honey & lime. Needless to say I worked at a frantic pace to get everything ready. The chicken, initially was to be baked till about half done with honey & lime, then fried with tempura flour. This will blend the crisp and flavour of the tempura flour with the honey & lime infused chicken, but due to time constraint, I decided to go with the honey and lime. I turned out pretty well. The potatoes was for a chilli potato dish, with chilli sauce inside the fries, but the syringe I bought was way to small to take in any Thai chilli sauce, so I abandon that idea, and just fried the potato anyway. The end result is this.
I guess I learned a lot from this cooking experience. For many, maybe these dishes are sup-sup-sui (simple as A-B-C), but for me its an achievement. Planning to atempt some other dishes in the near future. But the most important thing is to see the smile on Vans' face.
