3 more days to 2006

There are only three more days before we leap into the year of 2006. sad to say that i still haven't got myself new year resolutions yet.... hhmm... must think of some realistic resolutions....

Anyway, recap of what has happened this year.... not much actually.... the most happening one would be ken's proposal..... then we start to prepare for our wedding.... from looking out for gowns and photograhers..... it's going to be more hectic next year....

My very last wish this year is to celebrate New Year Eve with Ken and also we could spend the 1st day of 2006 together.

Happy New Year!!!

We always feel grateful for being able to celebrate Christmas with each other... my family and his family....Luckily we have monday off or else we won't have time to rest after being busy for the past two days....

Christmas Shopping Again!

Yeah.. christmas presents...always the hardest part for christmas.... but this year... Ken and I managed to have them prepared one week ahead =)

yesterday we spent the whole afternoon wrapping up the presents...but the shopping itself took us at least two weeks to complete.... hehe...usually i only wrapped the presents on Christmas Eve....

For those who haven't done their shopping... better do it as early as you can if you don't want to be trapped in the crowd for next few weekends...

And I'm almost done with CNY shopping as well.... Next year CNY, i'll be back in Kch. But Ken is not coming with me, so disappinted...

However, Christmas is no longer lonely ever since i met Ken.... yeah.. sound very mushy but it's true....hehe

Christmas Shopping & Weekend

The past 2 weeks have been very hectic. We haven't had much time to ourselves since we came back from Hong Kong. Lydia was still around, and so was Vans' dad so we had to bring them around, but they left on 14/12 which means now we can do some Christmas shopping and spend some time alone.

Bearing in mind the increase in family members, and future family members, Vans & I now need a list so that we won't leave anyone out. We had to cover Ikano Power Center, The Curve and Midvalley to complete our shopping list so we spend a considerable amount, like we always do during Christmas season. (Give and you shall receive... hehe)

Cheng Han was back from London, only for about a week so I took the opportunity to catch up with him and others and got some VERY INTERESTING NEWS about his life in London now. Not feeling too lonely now I guess, eh? Suh Hong just handed me his wedding invitation on 1st Jan 2006. What a way to start a new year, getting married! His potrait photography with "Just Married" was quite impressive I have to say. But they went all the way to Ulu Yam to capture some of the nature there.

And my weekend wouldn't be complete without the customary English Premier League football match of my favourite team, Chelsea. As usual we played some great football, did our business and stuffed 2 goals pass Arsenal's keeper and their manager Mr. Arsene "Whiner" was kind enough to critisize Chelsea of not playing fairly and proceed to whine about how team was the most unfortunate team in the world. Well Chelsea is not the most popular team around, and probably will never be, but I still love them! Bring 'em on!

Happy Birthday Vanessa

Today is Vans' birthday. I was a simple but cosy affair as family members gathered to celebrate her birthday. Although someone (e.g Adeline) has forgotten her birthday, they still compensated it with a big ang pow :) Vans has always been popular with friends and colleagues and she got a surprise birthday lunch yesetrday, and 2 presents today, one in the morning and one when she was about to leave office.

A present Vans got from her colleagues

It was a joint celebration with lil Brian who turns 3 on 8th Dec. Time really flies, I remember sending Yen to hospital when she delivered Brian and it was almost like yesterday. Anyway, whenever Brian sees a cake, its always his birthday and he alone can blow the candles and cut the cake. Well Vans wasn't about to let him do it alone so they blew the candles and cut the cake together. So everyone was happy =)

Everyone gathering round the table for the cake

This is the last birthday Vans is going to spend as a single, and she is down with gastric. So she couldn't take much of the Mango Delight I bought from Secret Recipe. Anyway, everyone enjoyed the cake especially the kids.

Not forgetting some others that celebrated their birthday recently

Hong Kong

The much awaited HK trip was finally over. We left KLIA at 9:30am and reached HKIA around 12:30pm. After searching for a couple of minutes, we finally found the tour guide, and we were off to Stanford Hotel in Mongkok. Finally reached hotel and settled down at about 3pm and found a McDonald's within walking distance, so we settled for a late lunch or should I say early dinner. We walked about the nearby streets, mainly selling electricals and clothing before we returned to hotel after we felt some light drizzling. We had to abandoned our plans to visit the Peak as we thought it would rain, but the rain did not come.

Ken and Vans at Mainstreet, USA

The second day we were scheduled for a half day tour, since we were with Brandon and Lydia, the kids kept asking when the tour will finish so we can go shopping. We were treated to a Hong Kong style breakfast of dim sum and such. This is the first time we had a 8 course dim sum breakfast :) It was quite an interesting tour as we were brought to the Bauhinia Square, where the historical moment took place on 1st July 1997. I could see the Victoria harbour and the IFC (4th tallest building in the world) from here. Next we visited the "sea-facing-Buddha" near one of the beaches. We were told that the highest building on the hil beside the temple belongs to Jackie Chan. After that we hopped onto a boat and were treated to sight of the ancient Hong Kong settlers, the original fishermen that still resides in the "boat-houses". On the other extreme were among the richest people in Hong Kong, parking their boats, used mainly for fishing and weekend parties (as seen on movies). The last stop was the Jewellery City, partly owned by Jackie Chan. Its a place worth visiting as we saw how diamond pendants, rings and stuff and made and it was sold to tourist at a discounted price, with lifetime guarantee!

Lydia, Brandon & Kenneth (on the boat to Tarzan Treehouse, behind us)

We were then dropped off at Tsim Sha Chui and we took the MTR to Central, and brought the kids to Toy's R Us, after getting lost in the process. The kids were lost in the world of toys and had a hard time choosing just 1 item from the thousands available. But still they managed to get hold of one each. All of us were so tired we headed straight back to the hotel but we still managed to have dinner on our way back and the kids were almost exhausted.

Brandon, Vans & Lydia at Mickey's Philharmagic

The third day was the most important as we headed to DISNEYLAND!!! We arrived close to 10am and breeze through the crowd to enter as we already have our tickets booked through the travel agency. Or else it would have been a nightmare lining up as the crowd were in the thousands. Main Street USA greeted us as we walked in and the atmosphere was just amazing. We were busy snapping away on our camera and videocam. We quickly moved on to Adventureland and checked out Tarzan's Treehouse, a treehouse built on a large tree, accessible only by boat. While others opt for a river cruise around the treehouse, we weaved through the crowd into Fantasyland. The kids found their way onto the carousel as Vans proceed to secure the Fast Pass for Mickey Philharmagic 3D cinema. After a brief Mickey-shaped ice-cream, we took our place in the Mickey Philharmagic theatre and were awed by the amazing show that really stretched our imagination. Scenes of Donald falling into the river were synced with water sprinkling to the crowd, and the flying carpet scene was coordinated by the moving chair and it triggered all our senses.

Vans & Ken in Disney MTR

1pm was the time for the daily Disney parade where all the Disney characters walk through the entire park. We gathered at the side and watch procession as the kids were just awed to see before their very eyes some Disney characters passing through and it lasted for about 25 minutes. Since the queue for the rest of the rides were beginning to build up, we proceeded to Tomorrowland and tried the Astro blasters. Sitting on board space ship we blasted the evil enemies of Buzz Lightyear as we travelled along the "universe". The kids were overjoyed, although the wait was long. It was almost 3pm now, and our stomach were growling so we took the kids for our Disney lunch at the Starliner Diner. Normal service was resumed after filling our stomachs and we attacked the train ride that brought us around the entire park. We spotted Donald Duck as we alighted the train and waited patiently in line for our turn we have this photo to show for our effort. It was souveniour time and grabbed a couple Mickey ears, Buzz Lightyear straws, Disney coins, Mickey pen and a few other items before leaving the park sadly as legs were starting to give way after a gruelling 7 hours of fun in this magical park. We boarded the Disney MTR which brought us to Central, took the Tram and reached the Peak and were able to see the nightline in HK. The kids were clearly exhausted, so we grabbed dinner on our way back and put the kids to sleep.

Vans & Ken at The Peak, Hong Kong

Vans and I then went out to do some last minute shopping, hunting for stuff from cookies to sweets, clothes to lighters for our family. We too were dead tired by the time we got back to our hotel. The following day, we departed HKIA on Monday (5/12) at 14:35 and reached "Home Sweet Home" at 8pm. Overall it was a good experience, deep inside Vans and I hope that we can return to Disneyland and HK again, this time without the kids :)

Graduation

Nov 26, 2005 - Graduation for Paris Graduate School of Management MBA

Finally, the long awaited ceremony is here. I think Vans is more excited than I am. We reached at 2:30pm, just in time for the registration. Got my robe and stuff, had to put them on top of my shirt and jacket, man it was hot. But its one of those things that you don't have many opportunity to do in life so I was glad. Initially I thought the payment made earlier will cover the potrait photography too, but I was wrong. So I paid up and had my photo taken with my family and Vans, I'm sure mum will be proud to hang this at home :)

The whole ceremony was a brief but meaningful one. Seeing my "classmates" and I graduate showed that all our hardwork and determination did not go to waste. Although there were times when we did not always agree with each other or the lecturer, all those were behind us now. Being recognised for this achievement with Vans and my parents around meant a lot to me. I have to thank them for their support throughout the course. And the event was graced by the Dean coming all the way from Paris, and also a Deputy Minister!

After the ceremony, we sent dad and mum home and met Chia Yun in Times Square for dinner. She was here for the weekend to attend some meetings. Had a great chat in Kenny Rogers, and walked around aimlessly in Bintang Walk till we end up in Starhill, snapped a couple of photos there and we sent her back to her hotel.
All in, it was a great day, full of meaning and fun. Now its all about looking forward to the Hong Kong trip in December.

First Wedding in Tham's family

Finally, today is the big day for eric and jessy. Their wedding i would say it's one of the simple ones that i had been to, but it was such a meaningful event.

This is the first wedding in Tham's family hehe..... so their parents were a bit clueless on certain things and how they should be done. Nevermind, there's always the first time. Hopefully they are now more experienced to handle the rest of the two weddings.

I was around to help the family for the bachelor party and the wedding. Ken was busy taking photos as if he's a professional photographer.

All of us were exhausted after the dinner but it's really fun.

Happening Time

The few weeks ahead will be very eventful.

19th Nov - Eric & Jessy's Wedding
26th Nov - Kenneth's PGSM (MBA) Graduation
2nd - 5th Dec - Hong Kong trip

Eric is busy preparing for the wedding with Dad and mum. He has a few guest coming from outstation and overseas. Expecting all the relatives and friends to ask me the same question, "So when is yours?" Well, I'll only answer those that I intend to invite.

Vans and I will be on the lookout during the entire day to see how it would be like for our big next year. Of course our arrangement will differ but there are things that we need to follow. I've been watching our budget closely after discovering that there will be other miscellaneous cost as the day draw near.

Next weekend will be my long awaited graduation, all the sweat and blood is worth it, after all. Vans and my parents will be there for this event. I'm sure Vans will ask me to get a larger print of the photo and display it somewhere at home.

The Hong Kong trip was more of a surprise rather than a planned vacation. Anyway Vans plan to do some shopping there while I'll try to eye a suit or tux there. Hope to come back refreshed, and ready to celebrate Christmas :)

Will post some photos of each event in the coming weeks.

Weekend Bridal House Visit

We spend the whole of saturday afternoon to visit two bridal houses - Covershots and Champagne Bridal.

We head straight to Covershots right after we pick up the flight tickets from travel agent.

Ken was so proud that he managed to find where Covershots is, based on what he remembers from the location map on the website .This is our first visit to Covershots, and both of us are so excited about it as this is when we can look at the actual studio and garden.

We enquire about the packages they have and were shown several sample photo albums. Those photos are those they advertise on the bridal mag. Ok, the setting of the indoor studio look exactly as shown in the mag but the garden is abit different. I guess it's acceptable coz it's not easy to maintain a garden. They can only maintain the flowers for a short duration of time then change for a new one. The lady show me some pics of the gowns, includes those new one which we saw during the bridal fair... a lil' bit disappointed coz can't get to see the actual piece.

Next, we make our way to Champage Bridal House, at Jln Yap Kwan Seng. We only found where the place is after a few turns and when we're about to give up. The bridal house is ran using one of the banglos at the area. We only spotted it when Ken saw some wedding gowns on 'someone banglo's verandah'.... hahaha.... We don't quite like the concept they are practising as we find the photos taken are very stiff and doesn't match our 'feel'. And i find their wedding gowns are not well-maintained. The gowns are been altered for times as you still can see the traces on the edges and stuff. Not very impressive. But it'd be a good place for those who wish to look like model and such.

We'll plan for another visit at around Hartamas area after we come back from HK.

Gown......

Recently, i've started to browse all the bridal mags for my dream wedding gown. Spotted a few which i quite fond of, but will never know how i look like until i put them on. I told Ken maybe it's about time for us to visit the bridal houses to look at the real gown with the actual fabric and details. Sometimes the gowns just look too nice on the photo but you might spot some flaws on the actual piece. Secondly price is part of consideration as price is usually not available in the mags.

I'm still indecisive whether to rent/buy off-the-rack or tailor-made my gown. Ken said i can choose to tailor-made if it's not too pricey since i'll need the gown for both KL and Kuching.

Anyway, i've decided on the gown design so that we could narrow down the selection when we hunt for gowns.

Plan to buy some accessories and shoes in this coming Hong Kong trip, and Ken is planning for his tux/suit too. Can't wait .... hehehe

Websites, more websites

Vans and I have been checking out loads of websites for bridal houses, restaurants, hotels, flowers, marriage registration, home design, and just about everything else.

We came across some interesting sites, although most services offered are quite expensive, but we gathered some ideas from these various sites and I think it will benefit those who are also planning for their big day.

Ciao Restaurant

Women Emotion

Bunga Flowers

Divine Couture

The thing that we like about these sites are that they are Malaysian companies, offering local content, and things that cater to our needs. Unlike a lot of websites for westerners, a lot of ideas from these sites are practical, but not necessarily cheap. So its up to us to source out affordable alternatives.

House Cleansing

After we got the keys to our house, my dad kept bugging me to wash the house, but we just couldn't fit it into our schedule. So we finally manage to do some washing last saturday (15/10). As this is our first time cleaning it, we expected some tough stains, paint spills and scratches on the floor tiles.

After getting the necessary "equipment" like pails, brooms, pipe and etc, we set out to clean the entire. Little did we realise that the entire house was a little too much for us to handle. 2 hours of intense swishing, swooshing, brushing, rubbing and all the other cleaning actions we knew helped us to cover the entire house, but there is still a lot to improve on. Realising that cleaning is not an one-off thing, we decided to call it a day and continue next week, maybe :)

Vans developed some blisters on her hands, while I got a cut and backache after prolonged bending from the swishing and swooshing from upstairs to downstairs. We shall be back, to continue the unfinished business.

Picking the Right Wedding Gown – Part 1

Finally, this long-waited post on choosing the right gown is ready. I’ve done lots of researches and manage to collect all information from various wedding guide websites. Thanks to Ken for providing all the materials he had compiled from the internet.

After setting a wedding date, one of the first and exciting things we’ll focus on would be the wedding gown. Decide on your wedding theme: whether it is formal, informal, fairy tale, beach wedding or traditional wedding. Secondly, establish a budget and set a ceiling budget, decide on how much you can afford and want to spend, then stick to it. Setting the budget for wedding gown should include everything from accessories, veils, tiara to shoes etc.

When to start looking
Most planners would suggest bride-to-be to start looking for a dress eight to ten months before the wedding. If you plan to tailor made the gown, make your order six months before the wedding. Wedding dress will need 3 months to be ready but allow some time for alterations and final touch up, in case there’s any. Bridesmaids’ and flower girls’ dresses can be either purchased from stores or rented from bridal shop. As soon as you’ve decided on the gown, start shopping for accessories, shoes and other necessity. It would be a good idea to bring along sisters or good friends when shopping to ask for their opinions and advice.

In case, you plan to rent the gown from the bridal shop, communicate with the bridal consultant on what would you prefer during the wedding. Then, the consultant will suggest a few gowns based on your preference and themes. Also, inform the bridal consultant of your plans: formality of wedding, style preferences, budget, weddings date, date the dress is needed. Talk to them and tell them what kind of gown you like and dislike.

Normally, bride-to-be would have chosen the gown when they plan for photo shooting. At the same time, the style preferences should have been discussed and finalized before the photography session. It’s very important to let your bridal consultant and photographer aware of your preference, what you like and dislike, such as you want them to focus on certain part of your body or there are certain poses you and fiance would like to include in to the photography. (Do and Don’t of Wedding Photography will be available soon)

Matching Style to Figure
*source from The Wedding Guide

The following suggestions will help identify the best style for you. Find one that flatters your figure and does not accentuate problem areas.

Short and slender: A high-rise waistline, high neckline, perhaps sleeveless with long gloves, chapel-length train, and a floor-length veil are all super-feminine and will make you look taller.

Petite with curves: Blouson bodice over fitted slip, a long, narrow sleeve. Avoid billowy looks. Select a natural, boat neck, or high neckline. Gathered or slightly dirndl waist with soft ribbon accents add length; avoid flounced skirts. Try a delicate floral wreath.

Tall and thin: Dropped waist looks terrific, because it takes away that long, leggy look. Bare off-the-shoulder styles are sexy and feminine. If you like, wear ruffles or billowy sleeves. Veils and hats are striking additions.

Plus size: Choose simple lines and avoid too much lace and beading. Look for vertical lines such as the princess cut, soft bodice, natural or high necklines. Avoid very puffed sleeves but try the dolman. Again, choose a simple headpiece such as a floral wreath or chapel veil.

This Day, Next Year

People, RESERVE this day 7th October 2006 on your calendar. Yes, we've decided to have our wedding on this day next year. So the clock is ticking now, we've got plenty to prepare for before the big day comes round. Wedding photo, invitations, reception, honeymoon (if I still have money left after the dinner... lol) and house furnishing.

Vans was so excited after we checked our new house. So she is already planning about the interior design and furnishing. My dad kept asking me when I want to fix the lights and kitchen cabinet, and I keep telling him next year, only to be asked to same question a few days later.

Back to the topic, 7th October 2006, venue will be announce at a later date. We look forward to seeing each and everyone (of those invited... lol) on the big day.

PS : For those in Kuching, we'll announce the date and venue later, yet to finalize

House Key

It has been a long and busy week for both Vans & I. Meetings and appointments keeping us busy. But we still have some good news to cheer about. We finally got the keys to our new house last week. The house is now ready with electricity, water and CF. So technically, we can move in anytime now.

Both my parents went for an immediate inspection the day after we got the keys, as they were more excited than us :) After inspecting the house, they found that there was some chips on the side wall and a few minor, and the developer managed to repair it. We even brought Vans mum for a round of inspection.

Overall, we are quite satisfied with the condition of the house. Things seems to be moving at a frantic pace now and other preparations will have to kick in soon. I just heard a very good friend of mine has set his wedding date on the 23rd September, 2006. Well, mine won't be too far apart. Should announce my date within this week.

Pampering at Sheraton Langkawi

Hehe... just back from Langkawi with Ken. Just feel like putting up a post on the hotel we're staying in. I myself particularly like this resort as their service is nice, staff is friendly and they really treat you well and make you feel like you are on vacations.

Upon checked in, we're seated at the lobby and served the welcoming drink as well as a cold towel. This indeed was a little surprise for us as we never expect to get this kind of treatment, ken finished the drink so fast and asked me how they blend the ice, was suspecting he will request me to make the same drink for him next time (hehe... first time check in a 5-star hotel by myself) Our luggage were taken care of at the entrance with our room-tag on it. After enjoying the fruit punch, we're transported to our room with the shuttle bus, forgot to snap the pic of the shuttle bus but it looks like the truck used for the safari ride.

Just like typical small kids, we're so excited to check out the room. The most interesting design is their bath tub, they have this window, only covered with blinder to separate the bedroom with the bathtub, i think it's especially designed for holiday makers to catch some movie while soaking themselves in the bath tub. Of coz they have door for the toilet and the bathroom lar! HHmm... ken told me he wants to have this design in our room next time. Knew he wants this so that he won't miss any football match only.

"Yeah... got star sport channel...." hahaha For ken, what would be more interesting than that.....

On the next day, we managed to snap some photos around the resort during our evening stroll.
At night, we're relaxing at the balcony, looking at ppl passing by, chit-chatting and enjoying the super cheap beer..... Overall, the resort is clean and comfortable.....

Langkawi Holiday

Langkawi, we were looking forward to the trip since we started planning it in March. We confirmed everything since May and we were finally in Langkawi.
Day 1
We flew in using Air Asia. We booked a Kancil to travel around the island, and our first destination was Underwater World Langkawi. We looked through the map, figured our way round and we arrived in about 20 minutes. The map that Vans got from the airport was useful after all :)

We spent a good 2 hours going through the maze in Underwater World, caught glimpses of rare fishes, and other animals. The rockhopper penguin was realy cute, the closest one can get to their famous cousin. The fish, shark, turtles anad all were huge, i mean really huge (about 5-10 feet). We even had enough time to sneak in to the 3D theatre to catch a short 3D movie before we left for the Duty Free shops right beside the Underwater World where we bought some beer and stuff.

We then checked in at the Sheraton Langkawi Beach Resort, checked our room and then left for the Oriental Village. I had a crazy idea of driving across from one end of the island to the other end, where Kuah town was, just to catch dinner, and we did. We ended up in Arts Cafe, and we saw a Billion Supermarket there. It was a long day, after all the fun and food, we hit back to the resort to rest.

Day 2
I booked us an Island Hopping trip. After the buffet breakfast in the hotel, we headed to AB Motel, our pick-up point. While waiting for pickup, I even managed to sneak in to the internet cafe to catch some football news and check some mails. Too bad couldn't sneak in a post in the blog. The van finally arrived, took us to the jetty and we boarded the speedboat. First up, Pulau Dayang Bunting, we were made hike up almost 1km to reach a beautiful lake. Many took the opportunity to snap away with their cameras, and so did we. While others hit the waters, we just sat there admiring the landscape of the island, said to depict a pregnant woman. The second island was the feeding ground for eagles, Pulau Singa Besar. The third island, Pulau Beras Basah had a sandy beach, ideal for swimmers and beach lovers. We saw the ang mos hitting the water again, and just laying themselves flat out to soak in as much sunlight as possible, while we hide under the cover of trees and hut. That was the last of the islands and we headed back to the jetty. Well, I survived the speedboat experience through 3 islands and live to tell all about it.

We drove back to the Duty Free shop we visited the day before, this time grabbing chocolates, a Jack Daniels and a Chivas Regal. KFC was for lunch, so it was another drive to Kuah town, and we bought a bucket, enough for lunch, AND dinner. So we completed our agenda and went back to the resort to devour our meatarian lunch. It was time to hit the beach when evening came, but we didn't swim, unlike the beaches in the islands that we visited earlier, the beach here is not crystal clear. After dinner, we took out some beer and shandy, had a nice chat at the balcony of the room with some romantic music in the background. It was a wonderful nite. The island hopping had taken its toll on us, so Vans went to bed early while I caught up with some football action on TV.

Day 3
There was nothing much on our agenda today, accept to have breakfast, pack up and head for the airport to catch our flight back to KLIA. Our legs were sore from the 1km hike up the mountain from the previous day. Driving in Langkawi is stress free, and we could just stop, sometimes in the middle of the road, and snap some photos of the scenic surroundings. We made it in time to Langkawi airport and returned the car before we boarded our 1 hour flight back to KL. We still manage to make it through the day in one piece, arriving home at about 4:35 local time.

I haven't had time to upload the photos yet, come back later to check out the photos in Langkawi :)
